Snapdragon 720G, 662, 460 launched with NAviC GPS

The new successors of mid-range chipsets are revealed by Qualcomm at an event in New Delhi. These new chipsets aka Snapdragon 720g, Snapdragon 662, Snapdragon 460 are the first chipsets to be launched with ISRO’s new Navigation system Navigation with Indian Constellation (NavIC) satellite positioning system. Along with this, it comes with the support of Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 technologies which provide better security and less latency. They have also introduced a new AI version for better image processing and improving performance.

Last, Qualcomm introduced new flagship-level chipset Snapdragon 865 but it didn’t come with the support for NavIC GPS technology but now mid-range and entry-level chipsets have a major advancement of adding NavIC GPS technology. It is said by ISRO that this new positioning system will provide a more accurate location for India than before.
Maybe now Qualcomm might launch 865+ soon with NavIC system and some more AI, performance advancement over the predecessor Snapdragon 865.

Snapdragon 720G

The Snapdragon 720G is borrowing some of the features from its successor 730G. Qualcomm is now offering Elite Gaming suite and some more features like 10-bit colors- HDR, AptX Adaptive audio codec support.

The Soc 720G comes with the new FastConnect 6200 Wi-Fi which increases the Wi-Fi range and major improvements in speed. Along with this, you get Wi-Fi 6 with 2×2 MIMO, for mobile connectivity, they have added 4×4 MIMO x15 LTE modem which comes under CAT 15 providing speed up to 800Mbps.

Gaming on mobile platforms has increased dramatically over the last years. That why Qualcomm is working hard to provide the best performance in mid-range chipset as they are having flagship-level like features.

In 720G, G stands for gaming. To enhance its performance it is built using the 8nm process. It has two Cortex A76 cores clocked at 2.3 GHz and six A55 cores clocked at 1.8 GHz. For GPU, they have used Adreno 618 which comes with true HDR10 gaming support. A new version of AI Hexagon 692 DSP is used which provides better image processing, gaming, and digital assistant experience.

This chipset comes with a support of camera up to 192 MP and displays resolution up to FHD+ (2520 x 1080) at 90Hz/120Hz or below refresh rates. This SoC also supports Quick charge 4 technology for better battery backup at 15 min charge.

Snapdragon 662

Like last year, Snapdragon 665 was announced, power-efficient chipset which was an advancement over Snapdragon 660 and taking some features of Snapdragon 670.

Now again Qualcomm has filled the gap between Snapdragon 660 and 665 with Snapdragon 662 made at 11nm fabrication. This chipset has four Cortex A73 cores clocked at 2.0 GHz and four Cortex A53 cores clocked at 1.8 GHz. This SoC comes with an Adreno 610 GPU. For mobile connectivity, it has a 2×2 MIMO x11 LTE modem which comes under CAT 12 providing speed up to 390Mbps.

It comes with newer AI Hexagon 683, which is an improvement over the last Snapdragon 660 AI. This SoC also introduces new ISP Spectra 340T which increases the number of the camera at the back to three.

This chipset comes with a support of camera up to 48 MP, also handles HIEC photo, HEVC video formats, and display resolution up to FHD+ (2520 x 1080) at 90Hz or below refresh rates. This SoC also supports Quick Charge 3 technology.

Snapdragon 460

Out of all the three chipsets, Snapdragon 460 is the most upgraded processor in its price range as in entry-level chipset. Qualcomm has said that this SoC will provide a boost of 70 percent over there predecessors.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 460 is using 11nm fabrication along with it has eight Kyro 240 (based on Cortex A73) cores clocked to 2.3 GHz. It comes along Adreno 610 GPU which provides a 60 percent boost in graphics-oriented tasks over the previous entry-level chipsets.

This chipset comes with a support of camera up to 24 MP, HIEC photo formats and display resolution up to FHD+ (2520 x 1080) at 60Hz refresh rates. This SoC supports Quick Charge 3 technology and triple camera compatibility.
